Thela by The Chaat Walk, DLF Summit Plaza — Chaat Gets a Proper Sit-Down Upgrade

Ever since I heard that Thela by The Chaat Walk had opened in DLF Summit Plaza, I’d been wanting to try it — I already love their outlet in Galleria. Today, under the very legitimate pretext of “shopping in Summit Plaza,” I finally got my chance.

I’ve always wanted a place that serves chaat and street food in a proper sit-down, air-conditioned setting — until now, Bhawan was pretty much the only option in Gurgaon. The ambience here is wonderfully quirky; I’ll let the photos do most of the talking. (There were several bills through the meal, but I could only hold on to one.)

The menu is enormous — not just chaat, but every kind of street food imaginable, plus proper tiffins and full meals. Deciding what to order was genuinely difficult. It’s an all-vegetarian menu.

We started with a Classic Banta and a Special Masala Mojito — both spot on.

Next came the 12-piece golgappe plate (the 12-piece is served at your table; there’s also a 5-piece option where you eat at the golgappa counter itself). It arrived with aloo and matar fillings and three different pani flavours, all of them good. The fillings — and, to a slightly lesser degree, the water — were a touch blander than I’d have liked; the Galleria outlet has more kick. The owner explained this is a deliberate choice, since this outlet is built for families, and honestly, that logic held up — I saw plenty of older couples and families at the tables, clearly enjoying themselves in a way they might not get at Gurgaon’s usual stand-up chaat counters.
6.5/10 for the golgappe.

Then came the Cheese and Paneer Pav Bhaji, beautifully plated and even better tasted. I usually stick to the plain Mumbai version, but my younger one was with me, so I went with this instead — and I’m glad I did. The cheese and paneer worked really well with the bhaji, the pav was soft, and the whole thing was delicious.
8/10.

The Veg Steamed Momos, served with two spicy dips, were better than anything I’ve had elsewhere in the NCR. If you only order one thing here, make it this.
10/10.

We finished with a Kulfi Falooda — and at the risk of repeating myself, very good.
8/10.
Service was quick and efficient, even though they’d only opened ten days earlier.
A must-visit. And, as a certain muscular action hero once put it: I’ll be back.
A few more shots from the visit — the mithai and pickle counter by the entrance, and their kombucha fridge.
